Deirdra is an experienced licensed mental health counselor, qualified supervisor of registered mental health counselor interns, adjunct instructor, previous school counselor, and administrator, state, national, and community leader as well as a published author. As a Counselor Educator and Clinical Licensed Mental Health Counselor Dr. Deirdra Sanders-Burnett is committed to helping students and clients achieve greater psychological, educational, vocational, and ethical development. Deirdra is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Counselor Educator and Qualified Supervisor who has over 39 years of experience in the areas of education and mental health counseling. Dr. Sanders-Burnett is an Adjunct Instructor for the University of South Florida and Florida Atlantic University. Previously Dr. Sanders-Burnett worked for the Polk County Schools in instructional, administrative, and supervisory roles. As an entrepreneur, Deirdra established Faith Counseling LLC, through which she provided mental health counseling to individuals of all ages and supervision to Registered Mental Health Interns. Dr. Sanders-Burnett is a published author whose dissertation has been downloaded in eleven countries. Additionally, she has been published in the Florida Mental Health Counselors Association "InSession" Magazine and in various local newspapers and magazines. Dr. Sanders-Burnett has presented information about mental health to local organization in her community and on the Win Win Women's Television Network.
Deirdra received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Bethune-Cookman College in Exceptional Child Education in 1983. At the University of South Florida, she earned a Master of Arts in Specific Learning Disabilities in 1990, a Master of Arts in Guidance and Counselor Education in 2001, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Counselor Education. Deirdra earned her license as a Mental Health Counselor in 2004 from the Florida Department of Health. Mrs. Sanders-Burnett earned her certification as a National Board-Certified Teacher in 2007 from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. Deirdra received her certification as a Family Mediator from the Supreme Court of Florida in 2013. Deirdra received her Telemental Health counseling and supervisions certification in 2018.
Deirdra has served in the Bible Education Department of the Hilltop Church of Christ, fulfilling the roles of Bible Teacher and support personnel for a variety of programs. Her community and organizational affiliations include President of the American Mental Health Counselors Association, Immediate Past-President of the Florida Mental Health Counselors Association, and the Past-President of the Suncoast Mental Health Counselors Association, Membership Chair of the Florida Counseling Association, Member of the American Counseling Association, Member of the Florida School Counselor Association, Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Stars, Lula Davis Chapter #25, member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. Gamma Phi Zeta Chapter, and Past Vice President of The Polk County Chapter of the Charmettes, Inc. Dr. Sanders-Burnett received the 2022 Counselor Educator of the Year Award from the American Mental Health Counselors Association and the 2022 Spirit Award from The Polk County Chapter of the Charmettes, Inc. Dr. Sanders-Burnett received the 2020-2021 Finer Womanhood Award from Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated Gamma Phi Zeta Chapter.
